The government of Uttar Pradesh, headed by CM Yogi Adityanath, plans to establish Jewar Airport as the largest airport in Asia. Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said Last week that the state government had proposed setting aside Rs 2,000 crore for Jewar Airport when providing the State Assembly with a Rs 5,50,270.78 crore budget for 2021-22.

The state government also expanded the number of runways at the Jewar Airport to six, two of which were previously determined.

As Delhi airport is projected to achieve 100 million capacity between 2021 and 2023, reaching saturation point, the need for Jewar airport was felt. After Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and Ghaziabad’s Hindon Airport, it will be the third airport in the Delhi NCR. The airport is expected to be spread over 5,000 hectares in total.
