LATEST MUMBAI LOCAL TRAIN NEWS: IS THE MAHARASHTRA GOVERNMENT CONSIDERING BANNING THE GENERAL PUBLIC FROM BOARDING LOCAL TRAINS?
New Mumbai Local Train Updates: After evaluating the situation, the government is expected to make a final decision in the coming days. According to reports, the Maharashtra government, headed by Uddhav Thackeray, may once again ban common people from boarding local train services due to a rise in coronavirus cases. After evaluating the situation, the government is expected to make a final decision in the coming days.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has hinted that the state could be put under lockdown once more. Thackeray said at a press conference yesterday that he doesn’t want to enforce limits, saying, “I don’t want to impose it, but majboori (helplessness) is still something.” He did state, however, that he is closely monitoring the situation. He also advised citizens of Maharashtra to wear masks in order to prevent a state-wide lockdown.
According to a report published in the Hindustan Times, the Thackeray government in Maharashtra is considering two options: either curtail the allotted time slots for the general public or fully ban them from taking local trains, allowing only those offering critical services and medical care to do so.
However, a state minister confirmed that the general public would not be stopped from taking the train, but that the train’s schedule could be rescheduled in the coming days.
The number of passengers on all three lines rose fourfold after the train was reopened to the general public, according to state government officials. The official was quoted by HT as saying, “The state government either revokes the permission granted to the general public completely or decreases the allotted time slot to reduce the crowding in the locals.”
