Baba Siddique Resigns from Mumbai Congress: Another Major Departure Following Milind Deora
- Baba Siddique, Former Maharashtra Minister, Steps Down from Congress After 48 Years.
Baba Siddique Resigns: Baba Siddique, a former minister in Maharashtra, made public his resignation from the primary membership of the Congress party on Thursday. After being a member for 48 years, he decided it was time to step away. Siddique mentioned that there were things he preferred not to articulate.
In a statement shared on X platform, the ex-state minister expressed, “I became part of the Indian National Congress party when I was young, and it has been a meaningful journey spanning 48 years. Today, I resign from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party, effective immediately.
“There are things I wish I could say, but sometimes it’s best to leave them unspoken. I’m grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey.”
This development occurred on Thursday, shortly after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders hinted that Siddique might join the faction led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. This speculation arose following Siddique and his son Zeeshan’s meeting with Pawar on February 1.
Siddique, a three-time MLA from the Bandra West constituency, previously served as the minister of state for food and civil supplies. He also chaired the Mumbai division of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority. Beginning as a student leader, he was first elected to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) as a corporator.
