Kolkata Doctor’s Rape and Murder Case: After the rape and murder in Kolkata, and an attack on the protest, hospital services will remain closed on Saturday except for emergency care.

The strike declared by the doctors is a protest against the rape and murder of the female doctor, and her fellow team of doctors has announced a nationwide strike. After the incident, doctors initially began a strike on Monday, which affected only some hospitals, government hospitals, and elective surgeries. But now, the Indian Medical Association has declared a nationwide strike for 24 hours, which will cause the biggest disruption in medical services. All services in government and private hospitals will be shut down on Saturday, except for emergency care.

Dr. Johnrose Jayalal, the president of the Indian Medical Association, said that this is the largest reaction and public outrage seen so far. The public is extremely angry, which ultimately led to the declaration of the strike. More than 50% of doctors in India are women, and 90% of the nursing staff are also women. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure their safety by declaring hospitals as protected zones, similar to how airports and courts are secured.

Jayalal also mentioned that concerns about the safety of female doctors are increasing day by day, as in most cases, when a patient dies, their relatives blame the doctor. In many instances, doctors have even been assaulted after a patient’s death.

The incident last week, where a 31-year-old doctor was raped and murdered, occurred in a seminar room at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal. She had gone there to rest during her night shift due to stress. An informal hospital staff member has been arrested and a criminal case has been filed regarding the incident.

Although the incident took place in Kolkata, today the entire country is mourning and standing together in protest. The team of doctors has decided to halt services nationwide for 24 hours, demanding the government take action for the safety of doctors.

Amid discussions about this incident, another case has been filed on August 8th in Uttarakhand, where a nurse was raped and murdered while on her way home.

The principal of RG Kar Medical College, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, instead of expressing sorrow, has raised questions about why the victim doctor went to rest alone in the seminar room at night, especially when she was supposed to go to another hospital after her resignation.

Politicians started pointing fingers at each other. When West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee faced criticism from opposing parties for not ensuring women’s safety, she responded by asking, “What about the sexual violence happening in your state?”

Fortis Healthcare is planning to buy a 31% stake in Agilus Diagnostics from private equity investors for Rs 1,780 crore, valuing the company at Rs 5,700 crore. These private equity firms are using a put option to sell their shares.

Fortis has already received a letter from NYLIM Jacob Ballas India Fund III LLC (NJBIF) to sell its 15.86% stake for Rs 905 crore. Letters from the other private equity investors, International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Resurgence PE Investments Limited (formerly Avigo PE Investments Limited), are expected to be received by August 13.

The deal values Agilus Diagnostics at Rs 5,700 crore, which is 20 times the expected enterprise value to EBITDA ratio for FY26. According to analysts at Nuvama, Fortis Healthcare plans to fund this acquisition with a Rs 1,500 crore debt at an interest rate of 10-10.5%, which may affect the company’s profit margins.

In the first quarter of FY25, Agilus reported net revenues of Rs 309.6 crore, with an EBITDA of Rs 55.5 crore and a margin of 18%. In comparison, Dr. Lal Pathlabs, India’s largest diagnostic company, has a market cap of Rs 26,669.89 crore as of August 8, 2024, and reported revenues of Rs 534 crore for the same period. Metropolis Healthcare, another leading diagnostic company, has a market cap of Rs 10,575.16 crore and posted revenues of Rs 292.27 crore in Q4FY24 and Rs 1,103.43 crore for the entire FY24.

Fortis announced in a stock exchange notice that the three private equity investors have exit rights for their shares in Agilus, including the option to sell them at market value by August 13, 2024, as per the shareholders’ agreement from June 12, 2012.

Fortis Healthcare Market Share in Agilus Diagnostics

Fortis Healthcare confirmed receiving a letter on August 7 from NJBIF regarding the exercise of a put option to sell 12.43 million shares, representing a 15.86% equity stake in Agilus, for Rs 905 crore. Fortis stated they are evaluating the situation and taking necessary steps to meet their contractual obligations under the agreement, while also adhering to applicable laws.

Previously, IHH Healthcare from Malaysia, which owns a majority stake in Fortis Healthcare, attempted to assist in selling the private equity stake by hiring bankers to find a buyer. In September 2023, Fortis had filed a Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) for an IPO with SEBI, but this was later canceled in February. The DRHP outlined plans for a sale of 14.2 million shares by Agilus investors, including IFC, NJBIF, and Resurgence PE Investments.

Nuvama analysts noted that Fortis’s commitment to expanding its hospital network is reassuring and Agilus’s potential recovery could unlock value in the future. However, rebranding and regulatory challenges have hindered Agilus’s growth. Analysts expect Agilus to reach industry-level growth by FY26, with estimated revenue and EBITDA growth rates of 8% and 17% CAGR from FY24 to FY27, respectively.

Agilus Diagnostics, formerly known as SRL, is still adjusting to recent rebranding efforts, which cost Rs 9 crore in the first quarter of FY25. The company plans to spend approximately Rs 50 crore on rebranding in FY25. As of June 30, 2024, Agilus has 4,055 customer touchpoints.

Ayushman Bharat stands as a prominent initiative of the Indian government, aimed at delivering extensive healthcare coverage to the populace. This initiative was launched in accordance with the National Health Policy of 2017.

Within the Ayushman Bharat framework, qualifying families have the opportunity to avail an annual healthcare coverage of ₹5 lakhs, catering to secondary and tertiary hospitalization expenses. This coverage is applicable for services rendered in both public and private hospitals throughout India.

What is Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana?

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), a component of the Ayushman Bharat initiative, stands as a health insurance scheme sponsored by the government. Its funding is entirely provided by the government, and the associated implementation costs are shared between the Central and State Governments.

The health insurance offered under Ayushman Bharat encompasses various services, such as covering hospitalization expenses, daycare surgeries, post-hospitalization care, pre-hospitalization benefits, and healthcare services for newborns.

PM-JAY is recognized for its overarching objective of reshaping the healthcare system, encompassing preventive measures, health promotion, and outpatient care.

Key Highlights of PM-JAY

  • PM-JAY extends comprehensive coverage of ₹5 lakhs annually per family for hospitalization, covering both secondary and tertiary care. This coverage is applicable through an approved network of public and private hospitals across the country.
  • When beneficiaries seek healthcare services at a hospital, PM-JAY facilitates a cashless experience at the point of service.
  • The scheme incorporates coverage for up to 3 days of pre-hospitalization and 15 days of post-hospitalization expenses, encompassing diagnostic and medication costs.
  • PM-JAY is inclusive, with no restrictions based on family size, age, or gender. Right from the start, it covers all pre-existing medical conditions.
  • The benefits of the scheme are not confined by geographical boundaries, allowing beneficiaries to access cashless treatment at any accredited public or private hospital in India.
  • Ayushman Bharat health insurance encompasses a wide array of approximately 1,929 medical procedures. This coverage includes all expenses associated with treatment, covering medications, supplies, diagnostic services, physician fees, room charges, surgeon fees, operating theatre and intensive care unit expenses, and more.
  • Both public and private hospitals are reimbursed for healthcare services at rates equivalent to those paid to private hospitals.

In the initial transition from October to November, India witnessed a decline in both Covid-19 cases and fatalities, but recent weeks have seen a notable surge, particularly in the state of Kerala, as per government reports. This upswing is attributed to an intensified testing strategy, focusing on samples from Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).

The World Health Organization’s (WHO) epidemiological update dated November 24 highlighted a substantial downturn in India’s Covid-19 cases and related fatalities during the period from October 23 to November 19. Remarkably, India reported only 523 new Covid-19 cases, reflecting a significant 79% decrease from the preceding month. Moreover, the country recorded just four new deaths, marking a 100% decrease compared to the previous month, even as other nations experienced fluctuations.

Despite these encouraging trends, the report underscored the need for cautious interpretation, acknowledging factors such as testing variations, reporting delays, and changes in reporting frequency.

Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Director-General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), recently disclosed the identification of a case involving the JN.1 sub-variant of Covid-19 during routine surveillance in Kerala conducted by INSACOG. This genomic monitoring network, which includes ICMR, follows revised surveillance guidelines, subjecting ILI and SARI patients to Covid-19 testing, with positive cases undergoing Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS).

The WHO has urged member states, including India, to uphold established Covid-19 infrastructure for continued early warning, surveillance, reporting, variant tracking, clinical care, vaccination, and communication efforts.

The Union health ministry reported the JN.1 sub-variant case from a RT-PCR positive sample collected in Karakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, on December 8, which had tested positive on November 18. The patient exhibited mild ILI symptoms and has since recovered without requiring treatment.

While the majority of cases are clinically mild, the government is conducting a mock drill across health facilities to assess public health and hospital preparedness. This ongoing exercise, supervised by district collectors, commenced on December 13 and is scheduled to conclude by December 18.

The Union Ministry of Health maintains regular communication with the State Department of Health in Kerala, actively monitoring various points of entry.

Originating from the BA.2.86 sub-variant identified in July, JN.1 has been reported in several countries, including Luxembourg, the United States, and now India. Though its prevalence is low compared to dominant variants like XBB.1.5, health officials stress cautious monitoring due to its unique mutations and unknown characteristics.

Dr. Jugal Kishore, Director Professor of the department of community medicine at Safdarjung Hospital, emphasizes the need for close monitoring of the JN.1 sub-variant, citing concerns about its rarity, India’s large population, and the potential for rapid outbreaks. Additionally, he underscores the importance of further research to confirm the implications of specific mutations in the spike protein, potentially affecting transmissibility and immune response evasion.

The name change of SRL to Agilus is being closely examined due to a legal case filed by Shivender Mohan Singh, a former promoter of Ranbaxy.

According to the lawsuit presented in the Delhi High Court, it was alleged that SRL Ltd, SRL Diagnostics, Fortis Healthcare, and RHC Holding had a license for the SRL brand but were now attempting to discontinue its use in favor of Agilus.

During the court proceedings, it was emphasized that SRL and its associated trademarks are considered a valuable asset due to their widespread recognition in the healthcare industry, both in India and abroad. The brand’s value for “SRL” as of March 31, 2022, was estimated to be between 314 crore and 428 crore, according to a valuation assessment conducted on February 16, 2023.

Singh expressed his ongoing concern that the sudden and unwarranted discontinuation of using SRL and its related trademarks could lead to a significant decrease in the brand’s value.

Even though there isn’t a clear directive from the court to move on with a rebranding effort, it was mentioned that not only has the “purported re-branding exercise” begun, but also public announcements to the effect that “SRL has now become Agilus” have also begun.

In its order, the bench said that the defendants “shall not act in any matter to diminish the value of brand SRL.” This has happened at the same time. Singh’s attorneys will probably submit a contempt petition in light of this.

SRL has made several announcements regarding their rebranding efforts. These include creating or updating the website (https://agilus.in), where it is prominently mentioned that “SRL Diagnostics” is now “Agilus Diagnostics” and providing information about SRL in the “About us” section. They have also claimed to retain the website “srlworld.com,” where the home page prominently states that “SRL Diagnostics” is now “Agilus Diagnostics.” Additionally, they have established a YouTube channel named “Agilus.”

The request made seeks to maintain the current state of SRL and its associated trademarks, as they were on September 22, 2022, until the sale process of SRL and the associated trademarks is finalized. The plea also asks that they refrain from adopting the name “Agilus” and promptly withdraw or remove all their marketing materials.

A Revolutionary Turn in the Health Tech Sector: Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, Leads the Way with Advanced AI Solutions. Pichai’s Recent Revelation Unveils an Astounding Breakthrough: Google’s AI Empowers Eye Scans to Predict Cardiovascular Events, Potentially Redefining Diagnostic Approaches away from CT Scans, MRIs, and X-rays.

Unleashing the Potential: Google’s Power in AI-driven Health Tech

“A Transformative Collaboration: Google and Aravind Eye Hospital Revolutionize Diabetic Retinopathy Detection”

Four years ago, a collaborative team of experts from Google and Aravind Eye Hospital embarked on a groundbreaking endeavor. Their goal? To create an automated tool capable of detecting diabetic retinopathy, a prevalent cause of worldwide blindness. Through meticulous research and development, they successfully crafted an algorithm that swiftly recognizes the disease’s indicators, providing a diagnosis within seconds based on retinal photographs. The imminent autonomy of this algorithm promises to reshape the field of eye disease detection and management in the near future.

Beyond expectations, the AI’s prowess extended further. In a recent milestone, Google introduced an algorithm with the remarkable capability to discern an individual’s gender, smoking habits, and forecast their five-year susceptibility to a heart attack, all derived from retinal images. Astonishingly, the AI possessed the capacity to identify issues that eluded its human trainers, unlocking a realm of opportunities for early detection of various conditions, including dementia, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, and even schizophrenia. This groundbreaking advancement heralds a new era of possibilities in disease prevention and proactive healthcare.

AI and the Eye: A Window to Cardiovascular Health

The eye, particularly the retina, serves as a gateway to assessing one’s holistic well-being. Within the inner rear wall of the eye, known as the fundus, a complex network of blood vessels exists, mirroring the body’s general state of health. By examining their characteristics, medical professionals can deduce significant details such as blood pressure levels, age indicators, and smoking patterns, all of which play a vital role in predicting cardiovascular wellness.

In their pursuit of developing a cardiovascular prediction algorithm, Google and Verily’s scientific experts leveraged the power of machine learning to meticulously examine an extensive medical dataset encompassing approximately 300,000 patients. This comprehensive collection consisted of both eye scans and general medical information. Through the utilization of neural networks, these datasets were meticulously scrutinized for discernible patterns, enabling the algorithms to establish associations between distinctive indicators observed in the eye scans and the essential metrics required to forecast cardiovascular risk factors, such as age and blood pressure.

During testing, Google’s AI exhibited an impressive ability to differentiate between the retinal images of two patients: one who experienced a cardiovascular event within the subsequent five years and one who remained unaffected. Remarkably, the AI achieved a success rate of 70% in these predictions. This performance was only marginally below the widely employed SCORE method, which relies on a blood test and achieves accurate predictions 72% of the time.

The Future of Health Diagnostics

This groundbreaking approach to evaluating cardiovascular risk not only streamlines and expedites the process for medical practitioners but also signifies a transformative transition towards an AI-driven paradigm in scientific exploration. By harnessing the power of AI algorithms, this method introduces novel avenues for analyzing vast amounts of existing medical data, hinting at the potential for artificial intelligence to autonomously generate unprecedented medical insights without explicit human guidance. This remarkable advancement opens up promising horizons for the future of medical research and innovation.

Moreover, the possibilities of this technology extend far beyond advanced medical institutions. In rural vision centers, where access to specialized equipment may be limited, an affordable and portable solution could revolutionize vision screenings. By utilizing a smartphone, a relatively inexpensive condensing lens, and a do-it-yourself retinal camera, individuals can capture retinal images on the go. These images can then be uploaded to the cloud, enabling swift diagnosis and providing results within moments. This innovative approach showcases the immense potential of the technology in reaching underserved areas and making healthcare more accessible to all.

Although the notion of an AI doctor autonomously generating novel diagnoses may seem like a distant possibility, the research indicates that this idea is not entirely implausible. Sundar Pichai’s recent announcement exemplifies how Google’s AI is already making significant advancements towards a future where conventional diagnostic techniques may take a backseat to the valuable insights obtainable from ocular examinations. Envisioned ahead lies a realm where a swift eye scan has the potential to unveil concealed health concerns and predict impending cardiovascular incidents, leading to a transformative shift in healthcare and diagnostic approaches.

Cancer, one of the most dangerous diseases in the world, continues to be a significant global health concern. It affects millions of people annually, causing immense physical, emotional, and economic burden. Understanding the symptoms, causes, and treatment options can play a crucial role in fighting against this devastating illness.

Cancer continues to present a formidable challenge, but with increased awareness, early detection, and advancements in treatment options, the outlook is progressively improving. Recognizing the symptoms, understanding the causes, and adopting a healthy lifestyle can help reduce the risk of cancer. Furthermore, supporting ongoing research, promoting preventive measures, and embracing innovative therapies contribute to a future where cancer is no longer a life-threatening disease. Remember, early detection and timely intervention remain pivotal in the fight against cancer.

Types of Cancer in detail:

  1. Breast Cancer: Breast cancer develops in the breast tissue and primarily affects women, but men can also be affected. Risk factors include age, family history, genetic mutations (such as BRCA1 and BRCA2), hormonal factors, and lifestyle choices. Common symptoms include a lump or thickening in the breast or underarm, changes in breast size or shape, nipple discharge, and breast pain. Treatment options include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and hormone therapy.
Breast Cancer
  1. Lung Cancer: Lung cancer originates in the lungs and is often associated with smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke, radon, asbestos, or other carcinogens. Symptoms may include a persistent cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing up blood, fatigue, and unexplained weight loss. Treatment options depend on the type and stage of lung cancer but may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy.
Lung Cancer
  1. Colorectal Cancer: Colorectal cancer affects the colon or rectum and usually develops from polyps or abnormal growths in the inner lining. Risk factors include age, family history, inflammatory bowel disease, certain genetic syndromes, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, and a diet high in processed meats and low in fiber. Symptoms can include changes in bowel habits, rectal bleeding, abdominal discomfort, fatigue, and unexplained weight loss. Treatment options include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy.
Colorectal Cancer
  1. Prostate Cancer: Prostate cancer develops in the prostate gland and is more common in older men. Risk factors include age, family history, race, obesity, and certain genetic mutations. Symptoms may include urinary problems (such as frequent urination, weak urine flow, or blood in the urine), erectile dysfunction, pain in the hips or lower back, and unexplained weight loss. Treatment options for prostate cancer include active surveillance, surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, chemotherapy, and targeted therapy.
Prostate Cancer
  1. Skin Cancer: Skin cancer occurs when skin cells undergo abnormal growth due to damage from ultraviolet (UV) radiation, typically from the sun or tanning beds. The three main types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Risk factors include excessive sun exposure, fair skin, history of sunburns, family history, and a weakened immune system. Symptoms can include new or changing moles, non-healing sores, or abnormal skin growths. Treatment options depend on the type and stage of skin cancer but may involve surgery, radiation therapy, topical medications, immunotherapy, or targeted therapy.
Skin Cancer
  1. Leukemia Cancer: Leukemia is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow, resulting in the overproduction of abnormal white blood cells. There are different types of leukemia, including acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Risk factors vary depending on the type of leukemia but can include genetic factors, exposure to certain chemicals, radiation, and certain genetic disorders. Symptoms may include fatigue, frequent infections, unexplained weight loss, easy bruising or bleeding, and bone or joint pain. Treatment options include chemotherapy, targeted therapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and stem cell transplant.
Leukemia Cancer

Each cancer type has its unique characteristics, risk factors, symptoms, and treatment options. By increasing awareness and knowledge, individuals can actively participate in early detection, prevention strategies, and personalized treatment plans. Remember, regular screenings, healthy lifestyle choices, and prompt medical attention play a crucial role in combating cancer and improving outcomes.

Symptoms of Cancer:

Recognizing the diverse symptoms of cancer is vital for early detection and prompt intervention. While specific signs may vary depending on the type and stage of cancer, the following common symptoms warrant attention:

  1. Unexplained Weight Loss: A significant and unexplained decrease in body weight, often accompanied by a loss of appetite, could indicate the presence of certain cancers.
  2. Fatigue and Weakness: Persistent and unexplained exhaustion or weakness may be indicative of cancer, as the disease can impact the body’s energy levels.
  3. Persistent Pain: Chronic or recurring pain that does not have an apparent cause or does not respond to typical treatments should be assessed, as it may be related to cancer.
  4. Changes in the Skin: The emergence of new moles or skin growths, changes in existing moles, or alterations in the color, size, or shape of skin lesions may be early signs of skin cancer.
  5. Persistent Cough or Hoarseness: A persistent cough, particularly if accompanied by blood, and long-lasting hoarseness can indicate underlying respiratory or throat cancer.
  6. Abnormal Bleeding or Discharge: Unusual bleeding, such as rectal bleeding, blood in urine or stool, or abnormal vaginal bleeding, should be evaluated as it could be associated with various cancers.
  7. Changes in Bowel or Bladder Habits: Sudden changes in bowel movements, persistent diarrhea or constipation, or frequent urination can be indicative of colorectal, bladder, or prostate cancer.
  8. Difficulty Swallowing or Persistent Indigestion: Difficulty swallowing, persistent heartburn, or ongoing indigestion may signify gastrointestinal or esophageal cancer.

Causes of Cancer:

Cancer development is multifaceted, influenced by an intricate interplay of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Understanding the underlying causes is essential for prevention and early intervention. Here are some significant factors associated with an increased risk of developing cancer:

  1. Tobacco Use: Smoking or using tobacco products is a leading cause of various cancers, including lung, throat, mouth, and bladder cancer. Secondhand smoke exposure is also a concern.
  2. Genetic Predisposition: Certain individuals inherit genetic mutations that predispose them to specific types of cancer, such as breast, ovarian, or colorectal cancer. Genetic counseling and testing can help identify those at higher risk.
  3. Exposure to Carcinogens: Prolonged exposure to substances like asbestos, benzene, radon, or certain chemicals in the workplace or environment can elevate the risk of cancer.
  4. Unhealthy Lifestyle: Poor dietary choices, lack of physical activity, excessive alcohol consumption, and obesity are lifestyle factors that contribute to an increased risk of developing certain types of cancer.
  5. Sun Exposure: Overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds can lead to skin cancer, including the potentially deadly melanoma.

Effective Treatments for Cancer:

Medical advancements have revolutionized cancer treatment, offering a range of effective options. Treatment selection depends on factors such as cancer type, stage, and individual health. Here are some commonly used treatments:

  1. Surgery: Surgical interventions aim to remove cancerous tumors or tissues from the body, either partially or completely. It can be curative or used to alleviate symptoms.
  2. Radiation Therapy: This treatment employs high-energy radiation to kill cancer cells or shrink tumors. It can be administered externally or internally, based on cancer type and location.
  3. Chemotherapy: Anti-cancer drugs are used to destroy cancer cells or impede their growth. Chemotherapy can be delivered orally, intravenously, or through injections, and may be used alone or in combination with other treatments.
  4. Immunotherapy: This innovative approach harnesses the body’s immune system to identify and attack cancer cells specifically. It includes monoclonal antibodies, immune checkpoint inhibitors, and cancer vaccines.
  5. Targeted Therapy: Targeted drugs focus on specific molecular alterations in cancer cells, disrupting their growth or promoting cell death. This approach minimizes damage to healthy cells.
  6. Hormone Therapy: Certain cancers, such as breast and prostate cancer, may rely on hormones for growth. Hormone therapy aims to block or interfere with hormone activity to impede cancer progression.

Monkeypox has reached Delhi now, after three cases earlier reported in Kerala. Most shocking factor is the fourth case reported in India has no International travel history.

Monkeypox affected patient details in Delhi?

A 31year old man from West Delhi was admitted in Lok Nayak Hospital for being suffering from fever and rashes since last 2 days. After knowing that the patient had Monkeypox, was immediately separated into isolation ward. He has tested Moneypox Positive. Hospital staff also informed that he is being symptomatic treatment.

How does Monkeypox spread?

A viral virus known as monkeypox mostly affects humans but can also pass between people. By coming into close contact with someone who has the rash, monkeypox can be passed from one person to another. However, as cases are now being identified in men who have sex with other men (MSM), researchers are also investigating whether the illness is sexually transmissible.

Other than the potential for sexual transmission, it is recognized that the main method of human-to-human transmission involves huge respiratory droplets. According to the Union Health Ministry, Monkeypox can be spread both directly by touch with bodily fluids or lesion material as well as indirectly through contact with infected clothing or bedding.

What are the symptoms of monkeypox?

The viral virus, which causes smallpox, and the vaccinia virus, which was used in the smallpox vaccine, are also members of the genus orthopoxvirus, which also includes the virus that causes Monkeypox. The symptoms of Monkeypox are less severe than those of smallpox.

Fever, headache, muscle aches, back discomfort, low energy, swollen lymph nodes, and two to three-week-long pox rashes are among the most typical symptoms of Monkeypox. Pneumonia, secondary skin infections, disorientation, and vision issues are some of the infection’s side effects.

Can you die of the disease?

Monkeypox is not so dangerous and are infected patient will not die with the disease. Monkeypox is mainly known as disease with time-limit, as this disease will resolve itself on its own, and will leave no long term harmful effects on a patients health. Rather it be a Adult or Children with strong immune systems will not be much affected with this disease. But children’s or those with weak immune systems must be careful, as carelessness can lead into severe infection.

As of now all three patients that were found in Kerala (those who arrived in state from the United Arab Emirates) are stable in Hospital.

How bad is the global outbreak?

Monkeypox has been classified as a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization as of this past Saturday. More than 16,000 instances have been reported from 75 different countries.

However, the smallpox vaccine, which elder Indians have had vaccinations for over the previous few decades, protects against monkeypox and offers durable immunity. In India, smallpox was eliminated in 1977.
