iPhone 16 release date:
As usual with iPhone launches, Apple is likely to unveil and release the iPhone 16 series sometime this autumn.
Barring any unexpected delays, similar to what happened in 2020 when the iPhone 12 debuted in October, it’s quite likely that we’ll witness the release of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models in September. While circumstances can shift, this is our current expectation. Unless we receive different information, anticipate the arrival of Apple’s next iPhones in September 2024.
Apple iPhone 16 price in India:
While there were expectations for a price hike in the iPhone 15 lineup, that didn’t materialize apart from the iPhone 15 Pro Max model, which now begins at $1,200 for the 256GB version (the 128GB variant has been discontinued). This was the only model in the iPhone 15 series that experienced a “price increase,” if you want to call it that.
Apple faced the highest component prices for the iPhone 15, yet it absorbed those increased production costs. However, this might change in 2024, so we might observe a slight uptick in prices for all iPhone 16 models.
The extent of the potential increase remains uncertain for now.
Apple iPhone 16 design:
Apple appears poised to alter the design of the entry-level iPhone 16 model. A report from MacRumors reveals three distinct prototype models with unique designs. However, all three share a common feature: a vertical dual camera layout. This vertical layout likely facilitates spatial video recording for the Apple Vision Pro headset.
While the three prototypes exhibit some differences, they all include a vertical dual camera setup. One prototype resembles the iPhone X-style camera, shaped like a pill. The other two prototypes feature separate lenses, akin to the design of the iPhone 12. Additionally, these prototype designs may include either a unified volume button with haptics or traditional mechanical volume buttons alongside a capacitive Action button and a new Capture button.
According to MacRumors, the design featuring the capacitive Action button, mechanical volume buttons, and the new Capture button seems the most probable, especially the black model depicted in the renders. With the Capture button positioned on the right edge, the mmWave antenna is likely to be relocated to the left edge.
These prototypes also hint at the colors Apple might use for the base model iPhone 16, including pale yellow, pink, and black. While other colors remain unknown, Apple typically offers more than three options for its base model iPhones, so we can anticipate more variety.
On February 6, MacRumors reported a shift towards a slimmer camera bump design, distinct from the earlier prototypes. The latest iPhone 16 prototype showcases a vertical camera arrangement in a pill-shaped module, similar to the earlier prototypes. The main and ultrawide lenses would align vertically with separate camera rings, while the LED flash would sit adjacent to the bump, akin to earlier designs.
These mockups align with leaked schematics from @MajinBuOfficial on X (formerly Twitter), resembling the slimmer camera bumps of the iPhone X and iPhone XS models.
Moreover, the new prototype introduces slight changes to the Action and Capture buttons. The new prototypes feature a smaller Action button akin to the one found on the current iPhone 15 Pro. The Capture button could be pressure-sensitive and flush with the iPhone 16 frame, possibly replacing the capacitive Action button.
While the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to retain the same size as the iPhone 15 counterparts, the Pro models will reportedly be slightly larger. The iPhone 16 Pro display is speculated to increase from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max could expand from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches.

With larger displays, the physical dimensions of the body would also increase slightly, making the body taller and wider than the current iPhone 15 Pro models, while thickness remains unchanged, resulting in increased weight.
The iPhone 16 series is rumored to feature micro-lens technology in the OLED panels, promising improved brightness and power efficiency.
Additionally, the iPhone 16 might introduce new haptic buttons, originally intended for the iPhone 15 Pro models but delayed to 2024 due to technical issues. Rumors suggest the previous unified button design might return on the iPhone 16 Pro, while the new haptic, solid-state button technology could be used on the Action and Capture buttons across all iPhone 16 models.
According to MacRumors, the new Capture button might emulate high-end camera functionality, including the ability to detect multiple levels of pressure to simulate a two-step shutter button and control video recording, zooming, and focusing. However, while Instant Digital has mixed credibility with Apple leaks, reports from Mark Gurman and The Information support these claims, indicating Apple’s continued focus on photography with the iPhone.
Apple iPhone 16 specs:
For the base model iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, we’re likely to see an A17 chip, although it might not be the same A17 Pro chip found in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple may opt for a lower-cost process for a standard “A17” chip destined for the standard iPhone 16 models.
Analyst Jeff Pu suggests that Apple might take a different approach by using A18 and A18 Pro names for the new chips. This would mean that all iPhone 16 models would feature some version of the A18 chip rather than utilizing an A17, which could be perceived as an older generation chip.

While overheating was a concern with the initial iPhone 15 models, reports suggest that Apple has developed a new thermal design to improve heat dissipation. This could involve implementing a graphene thermal system for the base iPhone 16 models, while the iPhone 16 Pro might feature a metal battery casing. Currently, iPhones use copper for heat sinks, but graphene offers higher thermal conductivity.
There have been rumors about Apple developing its own in-house 5G modem chips, but this isn’t expected to happen in 2024. Instead, the iPhone 16 Pro may adopt Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem for faster and more efficient 5G connectivity. However, the base-model iPhone 16 will likely continue using the Qualcomm X70 chip found in the iPhone 15. Additionally, the iPhone 16 could incorporate Wi-Fi 7 technology, potentially achieving speeds of at least 30 gigabits per second, up to 40Gb/s.
Apple iPhone 16 Camera:
As mentioned earlier, there’s speculation that the base model iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will feature a vertical camera layout similar to the iPhone X or iPhone 12 styles. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to retain a triple-lens camera system.
Apple might introduce a significant camera upgrade for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max by incorporating a new 48MP ultrawide lens, a substantial improvement from the current 12MP found in the iPhone 15 Pro. With a 48MP ultrawide camera, photos, particularly those taken in low-light conditions, would be more detailed.
Moreover, the iPhone 16 Pro Max could feature an enhanced eight-part hybrid lens comprising two glass elements and six plastic elements for the 48MP main camera, telephoto, and ultrawide lenses.
One of the most exciting rumors suggests that both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will offer at least 5x optical zoom capabilities, potentially eliminating the distinction solely for the larger Max version. However, there’s also speculation that the iPhone 16 Pro Max may introduce a super telephoto camera for a significant boost in optical zoom, further distinguishing it from the standard Pro model.
Apple iPhone 16 Battery:
The iPhone 16 Pro models are rumored to feature stacked battery technology, potentially offering improved battery life due to higher capacity and longer lifespans. This advancement could also lead to faster 40W wired and 20W MagSafe charging speeds.
Charging speed has been an area where Apple has been criticized compared to its competitors. If the iPhone 16 indeed addresses this, users could be in for a pleasant surprise.
According to @MajinBuOfficial, we have some insight into the battery changes across the entire iPhone 16 lineup. The leaker suggests that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature larger batteries compared to their predecessors. However, the iPhone 16 Plus might see a reduction in battery capacity. Additionally, the Pro Max model might shift from the L-shaped battery design to a rectangular shape, similar to the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.
As per @MajinBuOfficial, the expected battery capacities are as follows: the standard iPhone 16 with 3,561 mAh (up from the iPhone 15’s 3,349 mAh), the iPhone 16 Plus with 4,006 mAh (down from the iPhone 15 Plus’ 4,383 mAh), and the iPhone 16 Pro Max with 4,676 mAh (up from the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 4,422 mAh). However, there is no information available regarding the iPhone 16 Pro. It’s important to note that this information is based on speculation from @MajinBuOfficial, who has a mixed track record with Apple leaks.
Apple iPhone 16 Software and Updates:
With the iPhone 16 lineup expected in the fall and Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) usually happening in the summer to unveil new software, we anticipate the launch of iOS 18 alongside the iPhone 16.
While many tech companies have been heavily investing in AI, Apple has largely kept quiet. However, this might change with iOS 18 and Siri, as Apple has been enhancing it with smarter AI powered by large language models (LLM). While Apple could introduce new LLM features to all iPhones, some may be exclusive to the iPhone 16 line.
Potential AI features include improved interactions with Siri and Messages, smarter Apple Music playlists generated automatically, integration with productivity apps, and more. There are also rumors about microphone enhancements to complement the improved AI-powered Siri experience, such as better water resistance and improved signal-to-noise ratio.
