Month After Mira Road Riots, AIMIM Leader Waris Pathan Taken into Custody While Traveling to Mira Road Near Mumbai

According to MBVV Police, they had given a warning to Waris Pathan, telling him not to visit the area during the celebration of Shiv Jayanti. They were concerned that his presence could worsen the situation in the region, which had experienced communal violence a month earlier.

On Tuesday, the police in Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) stopped Waris Pathan, a former lawmaker and leader of AIMIM, at Dahisar Toll Naka. He was heading there to deliver a letter to the MBVV Commissioner, requesting action against hate speeches.

The MBVV Police had previously warned Waris Pathan not to visit the area due to the celebration of Shiv Jayanti. They were concerned that his presence could worsen the situation, especially after the recent communal violence in the area.

“On Sunday, we gave Waris Pathan a warning not to come to Mira Road. Despite this, he attempted to enter the area. As a result, we detained him briefly and later released him when he agreed to return to Mumbai,” an officer stated.

Pathan stated his intention to visit the city to meet with the Commissioner to address individuals delivering divisive speeches that incite communal tensions.

“I planned to meet with the police commissioner to submit a memorandum against individuals who spread hate and stir up communal unrest. But I ended up being arrested,” Waris Pathan tweeted following his detention.”

Tensions rose in Mira Road before the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22.

The dispute started when several individuals from the Hindu community, riding in 3-4 vehicles, began chanting slogans in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road near Mumbai, leading to communal clashes.

He talked to reporters at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in central Maharashtra.

“The government demolished shops and houses of people in Mira Road, which was unfair. I strongly criticize this action as it harmed people and ruined their businesses,” said the Lok Sabha MP from Hyderabad.

“At that time, nobody bothered to visit those affected people. Now, self-interested individuals who claim to be secular will visit Mira Road for votes before the elections,” added the AIMIM leader.
