Ambati Rayudu Bids Farewell to IPL, Announces Retirement

Ambati Rayudu, the former India ODI specialist and renowned player for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), revealed on Sunday that he will be concluding his participation in the IPL 2023 during the final match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad.

Rayudu, who had previously retired from international cricket following his exclusion from the 2019 World Cup in England, had also declared retirement from domestic cricket a couple of years ago, only to reverse his decision later.

However, in a recent tweet, the 38-year-old cricketer from Hyderabad affirmed that there would be no turning back this time. With 139 runs in 15 matches this season, Rayudu has chosen to bid farewell to the IPL after the upcoming final.

Throughout his career, Rayudu showcased memorable performances while representing two illustrious franchises, the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings, etching his name in the hearts of fans.

In international cricket, Rayudu boasted an impressive track record, featuring in 55 one-day internationals (ODIs) for India. He amassed a total of 1694 runs, including three centuries and ten half-centuries, with a remarkable batting average of over 47.

While his impact in T20 cricket, notably as an integral member of the Chennai Super Kings for nearly a decade, is undeniable, Rayudu’s contributions in the IPL deserve special recognition.

Before his final game, Ambati Rayudu had an impressive IPL career, featuring in 203 matches and accumulating 4329 runs at a strike-rate of 127. Among his notable performances were 22 half-centuries and a solitary century. One of his most remarkable seasons was in 2018, when he amassed 602 runs while playing for CSK.

Following his retirement from the Indian domestic scene, Rayudu is expected to have the freedom to participate in various franchise leagues and T20 tournaments for veterans. This will enable him to continue exhibiting his skills and experience across different cricketing platforms.
