Bomb Threat Letter on Ahmedabad Flight Puts Airport on High Alert

A bomb threat letter was discovered on an international flight that landed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on Monday, causing authorities to take immediate action. The alarming incident has raised concerns as India has been witnessing a surge in hoax bomb threats in recent times.
According to law enforcement officials, the bomb threat letter was found on an Indigo flight arriving from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, at approximately 9:30 AM. The letter was discovered during a routine security sweep of the aircraft after all passengers had disembarked.
Ahmedabad Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Crime, Sharad Singhal, confirmed that the Ahmedabad City Police, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) are jointly investigating the matter. “A thorough probe is underway to determine the authenticity and severity of this bomb threat,” he stated. Additionally, passengers were requested to stay back for further questioning as part of the investigation.

The year 2024 has seen an alarming rise in bomb threat incidents, with the Ministry of Civil Aviation reporting that Indian airlines received 728 such threats. Among these, 714 were directed at domestic carriers. Due to this rise, the Indian government has enforced strict protocols under the Bomb Threat Contingency Plan (BTCP) to manage and respond to such threats effectively.
Authorities remain vigilant, ensuring that every bomb threat is taken seriously to safeguard passengers and airport security. Investigations are ongoing to identify the source of the threat and to prevent any such incidents in the future.
