Delhi: Fire at Alipur Paint Factory Claims 11 Killed, 4 Injured
Tragedy struck in outer Delhi’s Alipur area on Thursday evening when an explosion followed by a massive fire at Alipur Paint Factory, claiming the lives of at least 11 individuals and injuring four others.
According to a Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official, the intense blaze erupted in the factory premises, which also housed chemical storage units, located in Alipur’s Dayalpur market. The victims, tragically, could not escape the inferno as the building collapsed in the aftermath of the explosion.
The fire quickly spread to neighboring structures, including a drug rehabilitation center and eight shops. Despite the swift response of 22 fire tenders dispatched to the scene upon receiving the distress call around 5:30 pm, the flames raged until 9 pm, leaving behind a grim scene of destruction.
In a somber statement on social media, DFS chief Atul Garg expressed deep sorrow over the loss of 11 lives in the tragic incident. Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosion may have been triggered by chemicals stored in the factory’s warehouses, as per reports from the Press Trust of India (PTI).
The injured individuals, identified as Jyoti (42), Divya (20), Mohit Solanki (34), and police constable Karambir (35), have been admitted to Raja Harish Chandra Hospital for treatment.
