Gujarat Government Plans to Extend Sabarmati Riverfront Project to Gandhinagar, Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vision. The Expansion Promises an Eco-Friendly Public Recreation Space, Following the Success of Ahmedabad’s Riverfront.
The day following the presentation of the country’s interim budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Gujarat unveiled its state budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 on Friday.
Aligned with Sitharaman’s budget, Gujarat also prioritized initiatives targeting poverty alleviation, women’s empowerment, agricultural development, and youth welfare.
“We’ve devised the roadmap for Viksit Gujarat 2047 under PM Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047 Sankalpana. Based on this plan, we’ve formulated the budget, giving precedence to poverty alleviation, women’s empowerment, farmers, and youth. This marks the largest budget in Gujarat’s history,” stated Kanu Desai, Gujarat’s Finance Minister.

World’s Longest 40-Kilometer Sabarmati Riverfront Project:
The government has taken a significant step to extend the riverfront from Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar. This decision encompasses the development of Phases 4 and 5 of the riverfront, stretching from Indira Bridge to Gandhinagar. Consequently, the riverfront’s total length will reach 38.2 km, making it one of the longest and most picturesque riverfronts globally,” stated Kanu Desai during the FY25 budget presentation.
“The Sabarmati riverfront stands as a testament to Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, transforming it into one of Gujarat’s iconic urban projects,” added the Gujarat Finance Minister.
Phase 3, a 5 km stretch of riverfront development near GIFT City, is slated to begin soon.
In addition to the riverfront expansion, the Bhupendra Patel-led government has also approved extending the Metro route to Ahmedabad International Airport and the interior of GIFT City.
