- Abhishek Ghosalkar, a former corporator of Mumbai, was shot by Mauris Noronha, also known as Mauris Bhai.
A leader from Shiv Sena (UBT), Abhishek Ghosalkar, was shot during a Facebook Live session in Mumbai’s Dahisar area on Thursday. Tragically, he later succumbed to his injuries. Ghosalkar, a former corporator in Mumbai and the son of Shivsena (UBT) leader Vinod Ghosalkar, was shot by Mauris Noronha, also known as Mauris Bhai. The entire incident was captured on Facebook Live.
Reports indicate that Ghosalkar and Noronha had a longstanding feud, and the Facebook Live was intended to demonstrate their reconciliation for the betterment of the area. As Ghosalkar finished speaking and was preparing to leave, Noronha shot him, with the entire incident broadcast live.
Noronha fired thrice at Ghosalkar before taking his own life, according to police, who stated that the shooting stemmed from ‘personal enmity.’
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has called for the resignation of Maharashtra Deputy CM and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis in response to the incident.
In another recent incident, BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad shot Shiv Sena leader Mahesh Gaikwad at Maharashtra’s Ulhasnagar police station during a complaint filing regarding a long-standing land dispute. Shiv Sena MLA Rahul Patil was also injured in the altercation.
Who was Mauris Noronha?
Mauris Noronha, also known as Mauris bhai in Borivali, describes himself as an award-winning social worker, Covid warrior, and philanthropist on his social media profiles. He had planned a trip to the Infant Jesus shrine in Nashik on February 10 for locals, as mentioned during the Facebook Live stream. Noronha’s Facebook profile photo indicates his intention to contest the upcoming BMC elections from ward no. 1.
On January 29, Noronha posted on his Instagram page: “You can’t defeat a man who doesn’t care about pain, loss, disrespect, heartbreak & rejection.”
Noronha reportedly sought to join the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena. In 2022, police issued a lookout notice for Noronha for alleged blackmail, rape, cheating, and threats against a 48-year-old woman. The allegations date back to 2014, but the complaint was lodged in 2022, leading to Noronha’s arrest in connection with the case.
