Munawar’s Reaction
Munawar, known for his fearless take on social and political issues, took to Instagram to express his frustration. Sharing a screenshot of the news, he wrote:
“30 minutes ki namaz ke liye yeh? Kya ab koi bhi festival Bharat ke roads pe nahi hoga?”
(Translation: “This for a 30-minute prayer? Will no festival in India now be allowed on the roads?”)
His post quickly caught attention, sparking debates among netizens. Many supported his concerns, criticizing the directive as unfair and selective.
Past Controversies
This isn’t the first time Munawar has been in the middle of a religious or political controversy. Here are some key incidents from his past:
- Comedy Show Backlash: Recently, his satirical show Hafta Vasooli received criticism for allegedly using inappropriate language. Some viewers even called for a boycott.
- Legal Troubles: In 2021, Munawar was arrested for allegedly hurting religious sentiments during a stand-up act. He spent over a month in jail before getting bail.
A Personal & Spiritual Journey
Amidst all the controversy, Munawar recently had a deeply personal experience. Just a week ago, he visited Mecca to perform Umrah alongside his wife, Mehzabeen Coatwala, whom he secretly married in 2024.
He shared a heartfelt post from Mecca, saying:
“Duniya ki sabse khubsurat jagah Makkah. Allah sabko yanha bulaye. Aur dua aap sabke liye ki hai maine. Mujhe bhi apni dua mein yaad rakhna.”
(Translation: “The most beautiful place in the world—Mecca. May Allah call everyone here. I prayed for you all. Remember me in your prayers too.”)

The Bigger Question
Munawar’s statement has reignited debates on religious freedom in public spaces. His question—whether any festival will now be banned on roads—raises concerns about the selective enforcement of such policies.
As discussions continue, this controversy adds to the growing list of debates on religion, politics, and public spaces in India.
