PM Modi Inaugurates India’s Longest Cable-Stayed Bridge, ‘Sudarshan Setu’
Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s longest cable-stayed bridge in Gujarat’s Dwarka. The ‘Sudarshan Setu’, connecting Okha and Beyt Dwarka island, was built at a cost of ₹ 979 crore. In October 2017, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the 2.3 km-long bridge, emphasizing its significance as a link between old and new Dwarka.
According to an official release, the four-lane bridge is 27.20 meters wide with 2.50 meters wide footpaths on each side. Sudarshan Setu boasts a unique design featuring footpaths adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna on both sides.
The bridge, previously referred to as the ‘Signature Bridge’, has been given a new name, ‘Sudarshan Setu’ or Sudarshan Bridge. Beyt Dwarka is an island close to Okha port, approximately 30 km away from Dwarka town, home to the famous Dwarkadhish temple of Lord Krishna.
“Today, I am thrilled to inaugurate Sudarshan Setu – a bridge that links lands and communities. It stands as a vivid symbol of our dedication to development and advancement,” stated the Prime Minister in a post on X – formerly recognized as Twitter.
Before officially opening the bridge, PM Modi paid homage at the Dwarkadhish temple.
Later today, the Prime Minister will inaugurate Gujarat’s inaugural All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) located in Rajkot.
In addition to the Rajkot AIIMS, PM Modi will virtually unveil four other newly constructed AIIMS facilities in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
