The inaugural ceremony of the UAE’s first Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi will be led by Prime Minister Modi. The historic BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Abu Dhabi is set to open its doors to the public on March 1, following the ceremony on February 14.

PM Modi expressed his anticipation of meeting with the Indian community in the UAE during the Ahlan Modi program.

On his social media, PM Modi shared his excitement, stating, “We take pride in our diaspora and their efforts to enhance India’s connections worldwide. Tonight, I eagerly await joining the Indian community in the UAE for the #AhlanModi event! Come, be a part of this memorable occasion.”

Before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled temple inauguration, Sadhu Brahmaviharidas recognized the significant role played by the generosity and friendship of UAE leaders. He conveyed deep appreciation for the rulers and leaders of the UAE, highlighting the strong bond shared between India’s Prime Minister and the UAE leaders.

Speaking at a press conference in Abu Dhabi, Sadhu Brahmaviharidas openly acknowledged the significance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s decision to allow the construction of the region’s first traditional stone temple. He emphasized the need for appreciation towards the rulers and leaders of the nation for their openness and support.

He highlighted the importance of trust, transparency, and truth in fostering the strong friendship between India’s Prime Minister and the leaders of the UAE, which played a crucial role in bringing the temple to fruition.

Sadhu Brahmaviharidas also delved into the symbolic aspects of the temple’s design. The seven spires adorning the Mandir symbolize gratitude towards the unity of the seven emirates, showcasing the harmonious relationship between India and the UAE. Furthermore, the seven spires pay tribute to seven significant deities, illustrating the interconnectedness of various cultures and religions.

In essence, the temple’s construction stands as a testament to the enduring friendship between nations and the rich diversity that characterizes their relationship.

What is BAPS?

BAPS stands for the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha. It’s a Hindu faith rooted in the Vedas, established by Bhagwan Swaminarayan in the late 18th century and formally organized in 1907 by Shastriji Maharaj.

This visit held immense importance as Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister in 34 years to visit this strategically vital Gulf nation, following Indira Gandhi’s visit. Modi expressed gratitude to the UAE leadership on behalf of 125 crore Indians, appreciating their decision to construct the temple, which he hailed as a “landmark” move, as reported by various sources.

Ambassador Sudhir highlighted the remarkable dedication and contributions of thousands of Indian artisans and devotees throughout the temple’s construction. He emphasized the active involvement of devotees and members of the Indian diaspora who participated in the construction through “Shramdan,” or voluntary labor. The completion of the temple is celebrated as a collective achievement, showcasing the unity and affection invested by the community.
