On Friday, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways released a draft notification for the accreditation of driver training centers, exempting individuals from the driving test required when applying for a driving license following successful completion of driver training at such centers.

The notification comes as Road Safety Month is celebrated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways from 18 January to 17 February 2021 instead of the National Road Safety Week, which is observed annually from 11 January to 17 January.

On Friday, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways released a draft notification for the accreditation of driver training centers, exempting individuals from the driving test requirement when applying for a driving license following successful completion of driver training at such centers.

This move, the Ministry said, would also enable the transport sector to have drivers who are specially trained to increase their performance and reduce road accidents.

The Ministry has proposed specific standards to be met and protocols to be implemented by such centers in order to provide quality driver training to people.
