Lenovo Unveils the First Transparent Laptop at MWC 2024: Key Details
Lenovo’s First Transparent Laptop: At the Mobile World Congress 2024, Lenovo introduced the ThinkBook Transparent Concept, featuring a transparent display, MicroLED technology, and a virtual keyboard. This innovative laptop offers a transparency rate of 55%, a brightness of 1,000 nits, and could potentially become a real product within the next five years.
At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 event in Barcelona, Lenovo unveiled a remarkable innovation: the ThinkBook Transparent Concept, a 17.3-inch laptop that seems straight out of a science fiction movie. This futuristic laptop features a borderless screen, a transparent keyboard area, and a unique floating footpad design.
The 17.3-inch borderless screen of the laptop offers up to 55% transparency when the pixels are black, though it becomes less transparent when illuminated. It boasts a peak brightness of 1,000 nits and a 720p display, as reported by The Verge.
Unlike many premium laptops, the Lenovo ThinkPad Transparent does not use an AMOLED panel but opts for a MicroLED display instead. This MicroLED display promises better saturation, transparency, brightness, and overall image quality, according to the Times of India.
While Lenovo has not disclosed specific hardware specifications, the laptop operates on the Windows 11 operating system, akin to other premium laptops.
In addition to its transparent display, Lenovo showcased in its concept video a flat touch keyboard that is projected rather than physical. The keyboard begins to disappear when a pen is brought close to the ThinkBook. Lenovo suggests that this transparent laptop could be particularly beneficial for artists or architects, enabling them to sketch and work more intuitively.

The Lenovo transparent laptop’s price and availability
Lenovo clarified that the laptop is a ‘proof of concept,’ indicating it won’t hit the market for purchase in the near future. Its price remains undisclosed until Lenovo decides to bring it to market.
“The Lenovo ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept is not just a proof of concept; it presents a futuristic view of AI PCs, integrating digital and physical spaces to enrich user experiences beyond conventional imagination,” stated the company in its announcement.
Similar to the rollable laptop showcased at last year’s MWC, the new transparent laptop is currently a proof of concept. However, Tom Butler, Lenovo’s executive director of the ThinkPad portfolio, expressed to The Verge that the company is “very confident” that this technology will become a reality in the form of an actual laptop within the next five years.
