Samir Arora, founder of Helios Capital, predicts that Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, may soon face termination or resignation in the wake of the Gemini controversy. Arora argues that such repercussions are warranted.

Arora shared his views on the micro-blogging platform X (formerly Twitter) in response to a user’s query about the AI chatbot Gemini controversies.

He stated, ‘My guess is he will be fired or resign – as he should. Despite being at the forefront of AI, he has completely faltered on this issue and allowed others to take control.’

What is Gemini AI?

Google has recently renamed its chatbot Bard as Gemini, officially unveiling the artificial intelligence (AI) tool for users worldwide. The company announces that users can now engage with the Gemini Pro 1.0 model in over 40 languages across more than 230 countries and territories.

Gemini Advanced is part of the Google One AI Premium Plan, offered at a monthly rate of $19.99, with a complimentary two-month trial period. Subscribers to the AI Premium Plan can anticipate Gemini’s integration into various Google applications, including Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and more, formerly known as Duet AI, as per the latest updates from Google.

Controversies Around The AI

Within a week of its launch, Google’s new AI image-generator connected to Gemini AI faced controversies. On February 23, Google issued an apology for the flawed introduction of the tool, admitting that it would sometimes “overcompensate” for diversity issues, even when inappropriate, as reported by AP.

To address these concerns, Google temporarily suspended the chatbot’s image generation feature. Prabhakar Raghavan, a senior vice president overseeing Google’s search engine and other businesses, stated in a blog post that “It’s clear that this feature missed the mark,” expressing apologies for inaccurate and offensive images. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) is reportedly contemplating issuing a notice to Google over claims of bias in Gemini’s responses regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On February 23, Gemini faced backlash for alleged bias against PM Modi, with a social media user complaining about the AI model’s responses. The viral post asserted that while Gemini provided a suitable response when asked about fascism concerning PM Modi, it reportedly avoided giving a clear answer when the same question was posed about Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
